"... Experts blame the cleavage boost on obesity, contraceptive pills and artificial hormones..." This is definitly the case down here in Tasmania. It's a vicious circle. A bosumy vicious circle ;P

Much of it has to do with how fashionable bras and undergarments have become for women of all ages. It was unthinkable a few decades ago to shop for bras with family members or for teens to talk about bras as freely as they do. So as everyone socializes about bras more - people buy more. And as people buy more the stats for larger chested women will increase as they come out of the wood work to enhance their figures and add support.

Australians are also very prudish when it comes to boobs and media exposure. I visited AU for 4 months last year and would notice that they would blur girls boobs out - big or small - whenever a newscast would film their city streets. Lots of the clothing stores I visited hide the lingerie section from public view as well.

I live in Melbourne and have to agree with this article.

It is a combination of all sorts of factors. I would also add that girls today wear much more revealing outfits at a younger age and is perhaps the reason everyone notices large breasts more. Sadly I am also seeing that women with large breasts tend to avoid sport and physical activity too much in Melbourne. Sports involvement for young women is down noticeably.
