Major Boobage in Modern Fictional Media
Anyone who is friends with the girls who work on Hiddenfeet, knows that we all love Southpark.
South Park is an Emmy and Peabody award winning animated television series on comedy central created by Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Every episode is so wrong and yet so right. The following two episodes are devoted entirely to large boobs.
South Park Season 12 Episode 3 Major Boobage
In a South Park homage to the 1981 film, “Heavy Metal”, the boys are trying to get Kenny off the latest drug craze that’s captured the junior high and under set.
South Park Seaons 6 Episode 10 Bebe’s Boobs Destroy Society
After nearly five years and 89 episodes, it finally happens: Cartman gets kicked out of the gang. The reason? Bebe gets boobs and the boys go ape, threatening their friendships and society as we know it.
Besides well known characters like Laura Croft, what are some other TV shows, Movies, Comics, Books and Video Games that feature big boobs? Do they always depict women sexually or are the busty characters able to demonstrate other talents?
List the fictional character and share your thoughts about them as a possible role model for young girls with big breasts.
Warning: Parents and younger hiddenfeet readers need to understand that South Park is probably intended for audiences 17 years of age or older.

-Soul Calibur 4 caused quite a fuss before it’s release last year due to the upping of breast size in it (the Ivy character in particular). A brief rundown of it is located here.
-Jessica Rabbit caused many parents to not take their kids to see Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The same happened with Cool World, but that was a more adult themed movie anyway.
-In mainstream anime, large breasted women are usually depicted one of two ways; dim and silly (Milly from Trigun and Tomoko from GTO) or boisterous and irrational (Tsunade from Naruto, Naga from Slayers).
These are just a few of the examples of the way larger than average breasts get a bum deal. Very, very rarely do you see a fictional chesty character that isn’t a sex symbol or treated as such. Even one of my more favorite large breasted characters, Anita Blake, over time became yet another statistic as Laurel K got lazy and turned half of each of her books into porno instead of the good story driven novels she first put out.
Excellent examples Jim! Didn’t know about some of those!
There’s a very interesting Simpsons episode named “Large Marge” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Marge) where Marge gets breasts implants by accident insted of a liposuction.
The episode is pretty peculiar as it shows many of the downsides of having large breasts, the unwanted attention, unexpected treats, and obsession with society towards a nice cleavage.
At the end Marge gets the implants removed and goes back to normal.
It’s all fan service. And it’s sad that small boobs aren’t appreciated inherently in media. You’d never see fictional media dedicated to small boobs.
I’m a game maker, and everyone tells me that I need to “sex up” my characters and whatnot. My main heroine is unattractive-to-average in the face, and flatchested, and she kicks the butts of all the pervy guys and skanky chicks (not saying that big boobs are automatically skanky, you can be skanky either way). There’s too much sex in the media, and this will be a huge middle-finger to those who continue to put that stuff out and contribute to it. And, my game will provide a hero for those average/less than average people among us ;)
Moving on, at least large breasts don’t get ignored and are generally treated favorably. I’ve seen plenty of media where smaller women get ignored or even made fun of. Lina Inverse from Slayers comes to mind. Yeah, that sure makes us smaller ladies feel good…
I would argue that small boobs DO get equal attention. Heck probably even more because naturally busty women are so rare. In its prime the women of the TV sitcom Friends were quite popular for their slim perky breasts. Jennifer Aniston, and Cortney Cox were featured in magazines showing their small chests off WAY more than any busty star I know of.
The list goes on and on with Julia Stiles, Jennifer Garner, Cameron Diaz, Calista Flockhart, Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, Shakira, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kirsten Dunst, Julia Roberts, Gwen Stefani, Kate Moss, Keira Knightley and Jennifer Lopez to name a few. And these stars have very small boobs. Most are barely a b-cup.
We remember actresses like Jennifer Love Hewitt and Pam Anderson (fake boobs) because they are famous FOR their boobs, not their acting or movies. But if you were to really sit down and do the math, small – and I do mean really small – boobed women always get the greatest media attention.
As for sexualiztion of boobs in the media. Yes im in total agreement! Im sick of it. Beauty and sex are two different things. But I rarely see boobs portrayed as being beautiful in America these days – except for this website.
Oh and this is an incredible blog your running Sara. My first time posting here. Keep up all the hard work. Ill try to spread the word.
Janet, but what I mean is that of the women that you listed get media attention, a lot of times it is in spite of their breasts (with a few exceptions). The small BOOBS themselves generally get no love. And as boobs are a very important part of femininity, that means a vital part of their womanhood is being ignored, while people who like boobs generally like big ones. For something so important, sometimes it’s nice to get attention because of boobs rather than in spite of them. I’ve heard way more people say those woman look like girls with not enough curves, in real life, not on magazine covers (of course magazines wouldn’t say that). Besides, the most desirable bombshells almost always are curvy. Maybe some of the smaller ladies would like to get some praise because of their chests too, not in spite of them or have them ignored. What’s good for the larger ladies is good for the smaller ones too, right?
Examples of how smaller women are ridiculed:

Ever looked at those “Best Celebrity Breast” lists? Always has women that are no smaller than a C cup. I remember seeing somewhere a list of top ten small women or something, and there were comments like “Keira Knightley is so attractive, she just looks like she SHOULD have big boobs.” So half the time such lists end up being a consolation prize or exercise in “awww, you’re special too!”
Let’s face it, to most people, small boobs != sexy.
Do a google search for small breasts, and see how many pages you get asking if men like small breasts. Why would this be? And I have yet to hear a busty woman told that she does not look sexy or like a woman, or made fun of because of her boobs.
But anyway, I was also mostly speaking on animation and video games, as that’s more of my realm and I don’t follow celebrities as much. And I can honestly say that most times when you have female heroines, especially the most popular ones, they are busty. Sure you can have smaller ones as heroines, but that’s more like the real-life equivalent of “oh she’s ugly, but she sure can do math!” or something like that. And besides, most of the people who design the characters are men, and they’re drawing what they want to see, what they would have for themselves if they could. Women with small boobs are generally not on that list, even if that’s what they settle for in real life, it’s not the ideal for them.
dee smaller boobs get attention but in different ways.

It is the nipple that takes center stage. And like Janet said there are thousands of articles devoted to TVs stars like Jennifer Aniston that talk specifically about her boobs/nipples.
Plus I wouldn’t worry too much about what TMZ says. TMZ is a gossip website designed to create controversy. They post all kinds of crap. Its not Popular Science or National Geographic.
“Keira Knightley is so attractive, she just looks like she SHOULD have big boobs.”
That quote above I HAVE seen and I agree that it is cruel. But again the hate goes both ways.
dee says: “And I have yet to hear a busty woman told that she does not look sexy or like a woman, or made fun of because of her boobs.”

Watch about 45 seconds into that breast reduction video where the girls mother says that her daughters big boobs look horrible. And it is her own MOTHER! Again this is an example of someone else telling a girl with big boobs how they think the boobs should look.
I totally agree with you about small boobs dee but imo the hate is equal between big and small chested girls. IMO it is the b and c cup girls that have an easier time. Being average is easy. Being unique is the challenge.
…But since this is a big boob website I think we are getting a little off topic. Sorry Sara!
On the flip side of “The small BOOBS themselves generally get no love”, in the fashion world, that’s about the only people outside of a Victoria Secret show that get any love at all. Rail thin flat chested models are a dime a dozen in that world.
@Lindsey, Dee, Janet – Im impressed with the comments you ladies left today. Good healthy debate. Sometimes we have to mention small breasts to put big breasts in perspective. Going a little off-topic like that is ok .
I was also emailed this youtube video of Halo Wars where a female scientist/commander on a space ship has very large breasts. Any halo fans out there? What role does this character play in the video game?
So we’re looking for positive role models with, in the words of South Park, awesome boobage. I can’t believe no one has mentioned DC comics Powergirl yet. I guess I’m the only fanboy here.
John Irving must adore busty women, because he populates his novels with them, and on top of that, bust size is a major way to determine the moral strength of an Irving heroine.
Jenny Fields, Hester, Melony, Tabitha Wheelwright, Franny, etc., are all courageous, strong women. Furthermore, the Irving heroes often cheat or otherwise have dalliances with flat-chested women, who are usually shifty, cruel and untrustworthy.
Irving’s boob-love might reach its zenith in “A Widow For One Year.” I’m not kidding — he must mention the lead character’s breasts or bra size on every other page. Though to be fair, I haven’t read all of his books.
Hope this helps!
Sara, there is one movie that comes to mind regarding very large breasts that are actually not played up in a sexual manner, although I suspect that when men watch it they are entranced by them. The movie is called “Full Body Massage” and it came out around 1995 and stars Mimi Rogers and Bryan Brown. Her character is a wealthy art gallery owner who has standing appointments to have a complete body massage. Bryan Brown plays a substitute masseuse, who as he massages her challenges her beliefs in just about every part of her life. There is no sex in the movie at all and nary a sexual theme, however Rogers has enormous breasts, probably at least DD cups and spends almost the entire movie showing them. I think this is a good example of a film that has copious amounts of nudity, yet is not in any way a sexually themed film. You should check this out. I hope this helps!
I concur. Once you get passed the fact that it’s the dude from Cocktail, it’s actually a pretty good flick.
I have two examples for you:
This is a topic about a character named Taki in the game Soul Calibur 2. People responded to someone’s review of Taki in which the reviewer disliked her large breasts, I believe. Then lots of people joined in and started putting down large breasted video game characters. Finally, at about page 12, a man named Redrounin came to the defense of large breasted video game characters. There’s nothing wrong with them. Women are allowed to have large breasts, and so are video game characters. Breasts are not evil; it’s our reactions to them that must change. I encourage you to read this topic, especially pages 12 and beyond because Redrounin writes quite passionately about the subject.
The other example is the anime show called Dragonauts: The Resonance. There are several large breasted women in this show, and except for occasional moments showing bounciness, these women are playing mostly serious roles. One of these women is a professor, and another one is a dragon. (some characters are dragons, and they can transform from human form into a huge vehicle that another character can pilot. This dragon character, named Machina, has very large breasts. And she also has special powers and is at an equal level of power with the male dragon teammates. She, like the others, doesn’t do anything deliberately to flaunt her body. There is one scene in the show that I linked with the URL in which her master, a young woman named Akira, describes in detail just how special Machina is to her. It starts at 13:43. But I wouldn’t watch the rest of the episode beyond 19:24 unless you want to spoil the plot in a bad way.
The reason why I brought up that Machina scene is to show that big breasted TV characters do have good qualities and are also appreciated by other characters for these good qualities.
Bigger breasts in anime/video games related to more powerful characters:

Thanks for sharing that article. I agree with what the author says. I often found myself using similar principles when designing my own characters. One of the characters I made for one of my own fictional stories is tall and has very large breasts, but rather than flaunting her body, she is known instead for her uniqueness and good and bad deeds, as well as her special powers and abilities. She has a very important role in the story, and I want to show that big breasted women are not simply sex objects. They too can move the story along and add meaning to it.
