Busty Simona Wins Juniors

Easily one of the biggest breast-related stories of the year.  Simona Halep is a promising Junior tennis player ranked #258 in the world. She won the Junior French Open tennis tournament in 2008 and she reached the second round of the qualifiers for the Senior French Open in 2009. Simona Halep Turns 18 on September 29.

In May 2009 she received widespread media attention all over the world for expressing her desire to go through breast reduction surgery in order to perform better on the tennis court. Simona Halep claims: “My breasts make me uncomfortable when I play.”

Simona Halep Big Bra on Tennis Court Serving

Some Hiddenfeet readers are claiming that Simona isn’t wearing the right bra support on court.  Perhaps this is true.  However it does seem like she is trying to maintain her bounce with some tight thick clothing as seen in these pictures.  Candidate for the shock absorber bra?

This is an ongoing story that Hiddenfeet will follow.  Everyone join in and share your thoughts, links and info in the comments area below.  Tackle this issue with as much respect and insight as you can when posting comments.

Update: Reduction is complete.

first post! I hate when people do that. Sorry Sara just messing with you.

This is a tough choice she will have to make. And from everything I have read, her mind is already made up despite what these groups and fan-clubs think.

The first question we need to address is – Can she compete at a high lvl on the WTA? It is difficult to learn about her game and potential on the web because all the website talk only about her upcoming reduction.

She can play well Lindsey. How well in the pros I don’t know but with the Williams sisters struggling atm and much of the lower ranked players lacking the court mobility of Simona I think she could be top 50 when shes in her early 20’s.

As for the reduction? hmmm. I don’t know. Gotta think about it some more. Ill read up on it and comment later.

Top 50 no but ill give her a potential top 100 some day.

Watch her play on youtube. It is easy to see how much trouble it can be playing tennis with two breasts resisting your left-right baseline court movements.

Sara, that link to the video for cosmetic surgery is what worries me. THAT is something that she needs to be aware of. She is already becoming a role model for girls and surgery is not the answer for all athletes.

    • 2009 June 20

@ Stef- Surgery has become so amazingly accepted in our culture and I could not agree with you more. A little nip–tuck here and there on your lunch break. Women even have their babies scheduled via cesarean section to fit in with a busy schedule. Surgery is very serious and should never entered into lightly.

    Good news:

It will probably help her tennis game. We can all agree on that.

    Bad news:

Woman’s tennis careers don’t last much past when they get to their mid 20’s.

    Result?

Good tennis for 7 or 8 years, strange shaped body for the next 50 years.

    Wow. She is only 17?

Has her doctor warned her that they are still growing and might get bigger? Is that what she is worried about? What has her growth been like over the past few years?

Lindsey has a point first we need to find out how well she could eventually play as her game (not her boobs) develops. Second, what is her motivation for playing tennis. Don’t laugh but many players from Romania play purely for money. If it is money she wants, couldn’t she get more endorsement deals by keeping her boobs? Course if shes playing for the love of the sport and all the trophies that’s different.

Lets be honest. Nothing against her she seems like a sweet girl but she is not that pretty compared to other endorsement rich tennis girls. I think Simona Halep knows this and it’s part of the reason for her wanting to reduce her breasts. She won’t be able to land deals as lucrative as Anna or Sharapova.

Then how to you explain the Williams sisters Mike?

  6. 2009 June 20

For a while the williams sisters were actually good. There were always in grand slam tournament finals and in the public’s eye. THATS why they got endorsement deals. Not for their looks.

Doesn’t Serena Williams have a big rack too? She seems to have managed okay despite her… handicap

  8. 2009 June 21

First, let’s get her in a Shock Absorber sports bra!!! In the right size. Then the boobs will no longer get in her way.

Second, I meet women all the time who’ve had reductions, and the breasts come back. Granted, not to their original size. But I can think of five of our clients who are still very well endowed, years after having breast reduction surgery.

Third, Lots of teenagers breasts’ outgrow the rest of their bodies. Wait until their out of college and it seems the body has caught up with the breasts. They go from being a stick with boobs, to being a curvy, proportionate woman.

Sara – have you thought of starting a petition?

    • 2009 June 21
      dee permalink

It’s her body, her decision…don’t you think a petition is a bit invasive of her prerogative? Would you do a petition to convince someone to not get implants or a nose job?

    • 2009 June 21
      dee permalink

And besides, I’m sure half the signers of the petition would be pervy guys who just love to ogle big boobs, not necessarily concerned with her well-being or her feelings in the matter.

lol, but if she does choose to do it…hell, she can send what she doesn’t want to me with my sad little small ones!

I like your sense of humor Dee. :)

A few things I have to correct you on. Don’t take this the wrong way. :)

#1. You do not know what external influences she has that might be wanting her to get a reduction. When you are seventeen, the opinions of others DO matter a lot. Perhaps the reduction was never her idea in the first place.
#2. There is nothing invasive about a survey like the one suggested by Carissa. Simona Halep is publicly telling media outlets about her upcoming reduction. She wants as much publicity as possible otherwise she would have just done it without telling anyone. You don’t just stand in front of a camera crew and start talking about your big boobs unless you want people to know about them all over the world. Watch some of the interviews of her. The reporters didn’t ask about her chest, she told them of her own free will.

It is great that Simona Halep and Sara are promoting talk and discussion about reductions and the choices women make. The more information we all gather, the better educated young girls will be.

What if she has the reduction and then blows out her arm or leg a month after she starts playing and her career is over?

      Bethany permalink

Well we wouldn’t want that to happen to anyone but if it did she would feel incredibly stupid. Since she is skipping college for a shot at the pro’s she would have nothing to fall back on. No endorsement chance, nothing. I wonder if she has thought of this?

  11. 2009 June 21
    dee permalink

I do see your point, Georgia. When Carissa said a petition, I didn’t think of a survey, but rather collecting signatures and then like mailing them to her, with sort of a “don’t do this because we have enough people who think you shouldn’t.” Petitions make me think of angry protests and demonstrations and stuff.

And still, I stand by my other point, that there is still a large “attractiveness” element here. Seriously, I really don’t think that a petition to stop a smaller-sized athlete from getting implants, or a non-attractive athlete from getting plastic surgery, would get much play. And I say this as a former athlete who has dealt with people (mostly men) saying how female sports aren’t interesting because the athletes are all dog-faced and shaped like men. And as a female who sees men all the time say that getting a reduction is a crime against nature, but mourn when someone gets implants removed or totally ridicules or even ignores smaller chested women. Hell, some of us want to be lusted after by lots of guys and seen as uber-sexy too lol.

So I apologize if I came off as a little heated before.

    Great post dee.

And no you did not seem heated. I understood what you were saying.

“(mostly men) saying how female sports aren’t interesting because the athletes are all dog-faced and shaped like men.”

Couldn’t agree more. This is why womens pro soccer died so quickly. Sad but true.

lol. Both you girls – Dee and Georgia – are spot on with your comments.

But if men only enjoy watching female sports if the women are attractive, why do men watch mens sports? Kinda gay then isn’t it. Ill be man enough to admit that attractive women OR men enhance sports. But sure, the athletic side is worthy of our respect as well.

Isn’t Jelena Dokic busty also? Did she have troubles playing because of boobs?

  14. 2009 June 22

Jelena Dokic is not that big. She was reported saying she was C-cup but it was her being bouncy that grabbed media – and both my brothers – attention. Ah men. So simple and easy to please.

Sara is right. She is wearing some think sports bras from what I see in this picture but obviously they don’t seem to be enough for her. Every girl has a different bounce to their chest so sometimes the size isn’t what causes all the trouble.

Is she playing Wimbledon? I should probably watch what all the fuss is about. Guys I work with talk about her and then get all quiet and giggle when I ask about her. Is there a tournament schedule I can look at that shows when she is playing on TV?

We seem to forget, that although she is not as busty as Simona Halep, large breasts don’t seem to bother Serena Williams. She is very effective on the tennis court. Does anyone know how large Serena’s boobs are as a comparison?

  20. 2009 July 2
    Katherine permalink

Serena is a D. So your right she is a little smaller but able to deal with her size. Serena has very thick strong legs and stomach muscles. This might be why she is able to balance her heavy top better than Simona.

I think this girl made a mistake having her breasts reduced.

How many female tennis players can you think of with exceptionally large breasts? Answer: Zero.
How many women can you think of in any sport with exceptionally large breasts? Answer: Zero.
How many large-breasted women can you think that have excelled in any career that is in the public eye apart from glamour modelling/porn/b-movies? Answer: Zero.

This girl may be a very talented tennis player but she had a chance to be much more than that. She had a chance to be a role model for millions of young girls with plus-size breasts and show the world that a woman with this particular attribute can do more than just be a sex object/blow up doll substitute. Instead she chose to simply get rid of them. What message does this send to young girls everywhere? Got big breasts? You’re a freak. Chop em off.

Well she seems to be doing OK for the last 4 months without big breasts. Nothing spectacular but just OK. She is ranked around 200 in the world now. I think she would have been a millionaire by now if she had kept her natural big breasts. Endorsement deals would have been much easier for her.
