Teen Queen Unfair Advantage to Teen Girls with Big Boobs?

A beauty pageant called Miss Teen Queen UK is distressing parents because the bra sizes of each contestant are published online. Teen Queen UK had entries from a staggering 12,000 teens this year and claim only finalists’ measurements are published with parents’ consent. Director Lina Perrini said: “We are very careful.”
There are two issues parents seem concerned about. First, some of the contestant’s parents are claiming that because the website lists the girls breast size, girls with bigger boobs are automatically granted an unfair advantage. And second, that publishing a girls bra size is an example of inappropriate and gratuitous sexualization.
Responses to Teen Queen UK are mixed. The director of the charity Kidscape, Claude Knights says “For me, such things as education are far more important. Certainly, when I was this age, the thought of entering a beauty pageant wouldn’t have entered my mind.” Kidscape claims to have been created to preventing bullying and help with the protecting of children.
A recent finalist, busty 15-year-old Thalia Pearce says her mother Beverley does not mind the fact that her busty statistics are published online.
“Thalia has been modeling since the age of nine and has featured in bra campaigns for companies such as Marks & Spencer.”
She’s reached a level of puberty where her bust size of 32E is considered too big in the normal line of modeling that Thalia has been doing since she was nine. Her mother Beverly says that a pageant like Miss Teen Queen is perfect because it means Thalia can carry on modeling without worrying about her breast size. Girls of all shapes and sizes can enter, and the last thing I want is for her to start worrying she needs to lose weight.
Some Teen Queen parents are not troubled that their daughter’s cup size appears on the website, as this would be the case with any modeling competition or agency they claim. Clothing is about size and choices and modeling needs to reflect that.
“In the wake of all this fuss, I could now take the girls’ vital statistics off the website, but I’m not going to do that.” -Teen Queen Director Lina Perrini
“That would be admitting we’re doing something wrong, which I don’t believe we are. I’ve spoken to all the mothers, too, and said that if they are worried by what has been said this week, and want to remove these details, then they can. But no one has done that. I think the fact that the mothers are all happy to leave these details up there speaks volumes.
“None of the girls under the age of 16 are allowed to wear bikinis in the competition at all, even though many of their parents often ask me if that is possible because that is what the girls would like to do. I also have banned certain lingerie companies – those who specialize in racy underwear for teenagers.”
Lina is also quick to point out that first prize is not reserved for the thinnest and most beautiful girl. They have had one finalist who was born without a hand, and another who is profoundly deaf.

I read a lot online on other sites complaining about Teen Queen. Again it boils down to another example of people convinced that breasts are sexual. They see a breast measurement and race to the conclusion that girls are compromised because of this. Its a shame people assume something sexual but it happens far too often.
If some people had their way all clothing stores, websites, and catalogs would be devoid of pictures and stats and everything would be a whole lot more confusing – nobody would have a clue as to what they were buying.
Can not stand pageants myself but the internet gets all twisted out of shape for nothing far too easily. One site will point the finger and then another fifty will follow with nothing to back up their claims. Interesting to read descriptions of some of the past winners and finalists. Looks like a self-esteem booster for girls with varying body types.
There are far worse websites out there. Sure some of the girls look a little trashy but it is their choice and the choice of the parents.
As far as a bra size being an advantage, I do not see it that way. If Teen Queen is able to attract fashion developers some might want big chested girls some might not. It depends on the product they are trying to market and sell.
My daughter has a classmate who did the pageant in 2008. It was a great experience for her. She met lots of girls with interests similar to hers, swimming I think, and she was treated compassionately by the event staff.
The people who complain about modeling tend to have little hands on knowledge of these events.
Breast size measurements are a part of life. Hiding how our bodies look and fit clothing isn’t going to protect girls from harm. Protection from predators comes from self awareness and making sure girls team up and spend time in groups. How big a teenage girls boobs are has nothing to do with it.
Are parents saying that a girl with big boobs is more likely to be a victim? That is justification for the claim that boobs are sexual and as Katherine posted this is NOT good to teach girls. Girls with big boobs shouldn’t hate or fear boobs. That is damaging and counter productive.
Thanks.
There is nothing wrong with big boob girls competing with small chested girls. Even if the stats are posted online I do not think it makes much of a difference. It might be weird, but personality does matter for these contests. How girls interact with each other behind the scenes is often taken into consideration. Besides, looking beautiful isnt a crime. Remember that link Sara posted about the ugly doll for girls? Is that what we want?
This one? lol
People automatically assume that contestants with bigger breasts will be preferred over those with smaller breasts. But I don’t think that’s true at all. Look at beauty pageants in America. You never see a contestant who has big breasts or has a more fleshed out body. They’re all very skinny and small-breasted. I’d say that big breasted women and heavier women are turned down from many areas in the fashion industry, so it’s good that this one beauty pageant lets women of all shapes and sizes enter.
That’s because in fashion, the models are supposed to be a vehicle for the clothing, so they choose people whose bodies are unremarkable enough to not draw attention to themselves. Which if you think about it, is kind of backhanded, because they’re being selected not because of their looks, but because even the clothes are more interesting than looking shapeless and skinny.
And no, I’m not a bitter jealous fattie lol. I’m skinny and shapeless myself, so I should know!
Dee is right on the money. She mentions something most people are rarely aware of. The model needs to be somewhat transparent so that the clothing takes center stage.
Most companies want models that fit the clothing and make the clothing look good. If the clothing doesn’t look good nobody will buy it.
Sports illustrated being the exception – they are not in the bussiness of selling clothing.
If I was a fashion company looking for models I would want a girl that fits the clothing line. Whats the point if their body type is unable to make the clothing look good. Fashion companies are in the business of selling clothes. A beauty pageant like this one that showcases a variety of young girl body types is probably the best way to attract clothing and makeup companies.
I read that parents of girls without boobs modeling for Teen Queen were the ones complaining the most but like J said those parents need to concentrate on the positive aspects of their child rather than focusing their attention on what the child doesn’t have.
Good advice Lindsey. I have always felt that one’s life focus should always be as positive as possible. Grass is always greener on the other side. It is a waste of time to worry about what everyone else has. People like that grow old without ever having accomplished anything.
There are some beautiful girls in that youtube video. At first I was jealous but not any more. Body care is tough work and time consuming. Those girls should be proud. I might do some fashion stuff when I get older. The TeenQueen website has tips for girls that seem pretty accurate and helpful imo. Like:
“You are what you eat! I know it sounds like a cliche but it is true. You need to look after your face and body from the inside and out. Your face and body are your fortune. You should try and exercise at least three times a week to maintain a healthy body. Toned, lean bodies look much better on camera. Always try to drink at least two litres of water a day. This will keep your skin clear, healthy and hydrated. ”
and the tips on skin care are good too!
We did an article on diet and skin care a while back that is still pretty popular Marie. Check it out!
I can see how this would upset some people. It’s just a fact that most people (myself included) think bigger breasts are better looking. Being small myself, I would actually be hesitant to enter this contest (well and the fact that I’m not so good looking and not a teen lol), because I’d be pitted against so many girls with better bodies, and measurements don’t lie! Why even compete?
Tough to tell but there are a few girls in that video with HUGE boobs so its great to see a competition that makes them feel welcome. Yay for Teen Queen!
God loves all of us. Big boobs through small boobs.
How does the voting work for this beauty contest? Is it like American Idol where fans vote in their favorites? Do judges pick? and who are the judges?
As long as they learn speech skills im all for it. We do not need a repeat of this.
Pagents are what we make of them. I think they can be a postive social experience for girls as long as the girls learn skills and are able to understand that genetics do play a major role in our external appearance. It is usually the parents that push their kids to much that get in the way. But I guess that is true of any sport or competition.
I looked it over and found it to be fairly tame. Some of the girls are only big chested because they are over weight. Jemma Noonan claims a 32DD but she is a dress size 10 or larger. Same goes for Charlotte Hole. Jade Bentley is beautiful and it says she is a 30DD. We also have to remember that a British D-cup is much smaller than a American D-cup.
Looks harmless to me. I would have to say that entering a pageant can be fun but nerve racking also. I did a few when I was younger but lost interest.
I think it is only a small group of people who don’t like Teen Queen because they seem to be growing in popularity since their start in 2006.
It is good that big boobed girls are getting a chance to compete.
