They’re Friggin’ Huge!

January 14th, 2008

Alicia Rebensdorf writes about her generously sized breasts in an article titled In defense of a double D.  This cleverly worded story discusses the numerous pitfalls of how her “friends” perceive her.  They all unanimously agree that her breasts are massive enough to warrant surgical removal.  This prompts Alicia to question why a breast reduction is meet with social approval while liposuction and tummy tucks are still considered vain.

    This quote is interesting:

“Even if I set off electrical storms when I walked, my friends would not allow me to complain that my thighs were too fat. Knowing that I’m healthy and active, they would call me silly, tell me I was beautiful and demand that I get over it. So why did they unanimously agree that my boobs were massive enough to warrant surgical removal?”

Makes you wonder why her friends want her to get a reduction.

Alicia mentions Punky Brewster and I too remember considering a reduction after hearing how much it helped her life. I am a stay at home mother now and a breast reduction for social reasons doesn’t make any sense to me at this point in my life. My husband and children don’t care about my chest. We have more important things to worry about. I do want to help you Sara when you create a list of online bra retailers. I have purchased from many and will sent you a link list.

tina, her friends want her to get a reduction because they want her to look just like they do. People notice - for better or worse - the differences in our appearances. Men probably like her breasts and the authors girlfriends are jealous of this!

    You’re probably right, macWendy.

I just saw this show on PBS where this Latina had plastic surgery done on her nose. She’d married a non-hispanic and their friends are non-hispanic, so she wanted to look more like them. (They all appear to have used the same surgeon.) Her nose wasn’t big at all, in fact there was absolutely nothing wrong with her face. The urge to conform was that strong - I don’t understand it myself, but I guess a lot of people do.

She says, big or small, empowerment should not lie in the size of one’s endowment. This is how I live my life.

Breasts are troublesome for sports, and when shopping for clothing, but I don’t like the negative attitudes everyone has towards large breasts - hence the reason I visit this website. I have always believed that large breasted girls catch MORE criticism from people than small breasted girls. Being normal, say a C cup, is easy. Being small like an A or B is no where near the burden of being DD. At school I hear the old “you have it so easy” because you are large comment. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I know what Alicia is talking about when she says borrowing clothing from friends with small breasts isn’t worth it! A smooth fitting top or dress that fits them makes me look revealing and slutty. Then when I go a size larger, the bagginess makes it look like I am trying too hard to hide my breasts and I still attract a wandering eye. LOL I never win!

PennStateGirl, I could use some advice on a situation I am dealing with my girlfriend. If you see this post, let me know if I can send you a message somehow. By the way, go Nittany Lions!

It is strange that a breast reduction is always considered socially “ok” while liposuction and tummy tucks are looked down upon. Both are fat removal but woman always want “other woman” to reduce their size and shape themselves to look slimmer. Big breasts are competition for insecure women. I grew large quickly when I was younger. Everyone on my mothers side did. As I grew taller my breasts seemed less noticeable but I am sure it would have been more of a problem if I was shorter. Women and men who see shorter girls look down and see cleavage and breasts easier on shorter women I believe.
